MARY BARTON

biography:

Mary Barton is an Australian artist based in Kyneton, Victoria. In 2012, she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Painting at RMIT University. Barton works predominantly with oil, pigment, gouache and mixed media on paper, wood and canvas.
In 2016 Barton made her way through Java to India where she collected pigments to manufacture her own paint. During this time Barton experimented with new materials, creating an assortment of small works.

Her pictures have imagery suggestive of both a natural world and elements of a fictitious world. The frenetic cities and ornamental structures in India have influenced Barton’s work and together with her intuitive awareness in Australia’s unique landscape she is interested in creating an unexplained sense of place in her paintings.

Mary Barton has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Malaysia.
